Coup for Wexford as it wins TidyTowns Diversity award

David Tucker

Wexford TidyTowns won the national title of the SuperValu Diversity Award in the annual TidyTowns awards which were announced on Monday (September 28).

The Wexford committee was recognised for their efforts to include all of their community, on an inter-generational and inter-cultural basis, on their committee and in the work that they do.

The SuperValu Diversity Award is new to the SuperValu TidyTowns competition this year. On hand to present the prize was Martin Kelleher, Managing Director of SuperValu, with the announcement greeted with great celebration.

SuperValu is the competition's main sponsor for 24 years, making it one of Ireland's longest running sponsorships.

Mr Kelleher said the addition of the SuperValu Diversity Award this year is indicative of the growing momentum behind the SuperValu TidyTowns competition.

'Wexford TidyTowns has made an outstanding contribution to their locality by rallying all members together to achieve a shared goal of bettering their community.

'Their relentless commitment to working together for the good of their area, and involving all members of the community, is what makes this competition the success it is today,' said Mr Kelleher.

The Helix in Dublin was packed with 1,000 representatives of TidyTowns groups from all over the country for the awards ceremony.

Interest in the SuperValu TidyTowns competition has been consistently high and this year marked the highest number of entries to date with 862 towns and villages entering the competition.
