COURTNACUDDY BREATHING TRIBUTE TO HEROES OF 1798
COURTNACUDDY ENTERED the Tidy Towns for the first time this year and the village earned praise on many fronts, but not least for its authentic 1798 memorial.
The converted limekiln is 'outside the village proper' and the adjudicators felt it was 'very easy to imagine what it was like in Co Wexford of 1798 in this forested, hillside location'.
' This is interesting, as most other 1798 memorials are located in urban/ village cores which were not in existence in 1798 for the most part and certainly not in the form in which they now exist.
'We also admired your 1798 memorial nearer the village.'
