Two young men accused of robbing €4,000 from Courtown post office looked in vain for bail when they were brought before Judge Gerard Haughton on Monday, April 25.

The accused pair, both self-confessed drug addicts, were Stephen Walsh (24) of 26 Drumcairn Green in Tallaght and Luke Strong (18) of 41 Riverchapel View in Courtown.

They had already spent five days in prison after being arrested outside the post office when they were produced at the District Court sitting in Wexford.

The granting of bail was opposed by Garda Seargeant Evelyn Reddan who feared a high likelihood that they would re-offend if allowed their liberty. They were caught red-handed, she stated, after demanding the contents of the till in the post office, adding that Walsh had what appeared to be a firearm.

Walsh accepted that he was on bail in another matter when he was apprehended in Courtown.
