Creative teens to get the chance to make movies at the Wexford Youth Film Project
COUNTY Wexford Youth Film Project has been awarded an Arts Council Young Ensembles Scheme grant to run a unique filmmaking project for young people this summer.
Film Farm will involve eight teenagers from a farming background and eight teenagers from an urban background making films together on a working farm in Co. Wexford.
County Wexford Youth Film Project, formerly Reel New Ross, was initiated in 2005 by Wexford County Council in partnership with St Michael's Theatre and the Arts Council, and hundreds of young people from across the county have participated since then.
The project trains young people in the art of filmmaking and provides an opportunity for them to make their own short films.
As well as receiving their premiere in Co. Wexford, films from the youth film project have been on television and have won awards at youth film festivals.
Film Farm will take place in Cow House Studios near Rathnure from Monday, August 20, to Friday, August 24, from 10.30 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. The facilities have been generously donated by Cow House Studios.
The course will cover all of the key aspects involved in filmmaking including camera operation, scriptwriting, directing, acting for screen, storyboarding and postproduction. The participants will devise and shoot their own short films and animations on location in and around the farm. The films will receive a premiere in Cow House Studios in the autumn and will also receive a screening as part of Wexford Widescreen Youth Film Festival in St Michael's Theatre, New Ross, in the spring. Finally, the films will be uploaded onto the film project's short film channel and the young people involved will also be given their own copy of the films on DVD.
County Wexford Youth Film Project is currently looking for people aged between 13 and 18 to participate in Film Farm.
There is no charge for taking part. To book a place, please phone St Michael's Theatre on 051 421255 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
