Diners raise €3,500 for local hall
IT WAS ' Come Dine With Me' but without the cattiness and back biting. The people of Crossabeg and Ballymurn used the basic recipe of the popular television programme to raise €3,500 towards the planned parish community centre.
'It was a real sociable kind of a thing,' stressed community centre chairman Seamus Kehoe after four months of eating in people's homes. ' There was no competition at all.'
Yes, there was a winner but the prize of a midweek break was awarded to John and Julie Foley from Crory by chance on the luck of the draw.
There was no question of putting anyone's culinary ability under the microscope.
At least 60 people signed up for the ' Come Dine With Me' paying €10 a night to have meals hosted by friends and neighbours.
