DoneDeal.ie tops Google search list
WEXFORD COMPANY IS 'FASTEST RISING'
WEXFORD company Donedeal.ie was the fastest-rising Google search in Ireland during 2011, according to Google's year-end zeitgeist.
The online advertising service continues to grow in popularity and was not only one of Google's 'fastest rising' searches this year, but also one of its top 'shopping' searches.
Each year, Google releases the most searched for terms on its search engine in numerous regions to find out the year's biggest trends.
In what has been a remarkable year for the company run by husband and wife team Fred and Geraldine Karlsson, it had already become Ireland's most visited site for buying and selling cars, and was acquired by the Schibsted Media Group.
Just to emphasise how popular it is in Google's 'fastest rising' category, it finished ahead of the iphone 5 and the Rugby World Cup, in second and third place respectively. The Wexford company even beat Pippa Middleton, left, in the growing popularity stakes!
However, Pippa can at least console herself with the knowledge that she is the fastest rising searched-for person in Ireland after her eyecatching appearance at the Royal Wedding earlier this year.
Donedeal.ie was the fourth most searched for in the Irish shopping category, behind ebay, ipad and Amazon, but ahead of Argos, digital camera, ipod and laptop.
A spokesman for Donedeal.ie said they are 'absolutely delighted' that searches for their site on Google have grown by 500 per cent this year and thanked 'the millions of Donedealers looking for our site'.
To celebrate their success the company offered a free voucher for a Donedeal.ie ad last Thursday.
