Double joy for Taghmon
THEY know how to put a show on in Taghmon.
For the second year running Taghmon Tops won the South East Tops with their captivating variety show, featuring up to 100 talented local performers.
Having rehearsed their show Up Up and Away since before Christmas, the group, which is composed of 70 children and around 30 adults, made it through the heats earlier in the year to the final when they came up against Wexford Tops.
A spokesperson for the group said there was stiff competition from the Kilrane/Rosslare Harbour group and from the Wexford performers.
The Taghmon group took the title on Friday night in the Taghmon GAA Centre.
Adjudicator Des Monaghan was impressed with the way the Taghmon Tops group managed the vast variety of routines, performing an entertaining show.
In the competition each group gets to perform twice. After the initial performance Mr Monaghan dispensed advice on how they could improve their show and after the second show he gave an average of his scores from both shows.
Wexford and Taghmon tops groups made it through to the final and afterwards Mr Monaghan said he was impressed with the comedy routine in the Taghmon production, adding that none of the routines were too long.
'It's important to keep the audience interested and we had him captivated. All the shows were good from the three groups this year.'
Taghmon Tops Musical Director and Producer Anita Murphy was singled out for praise for the excellent show the community put on.
The group has been celebrating this year's success and will no doubt be going for a three-in-a-row next year.
