Drink driver is put off the road
TONY Goggins (43), of 49 Westgate Park, Wexford, has been disqualified from driving for two years.
He pleaded guilty to the offence, which was detected at Kennedy Park, Wexford, on August 21, 2010, when he appeared before Wexford District Court on Monday.
The court heard that he provided Gardaí with a breath sample, which revealed a concentration of 50mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath.
Eva Lalor, for Goggins, told Judge O Donnchadh Buachalla that he had never come to the attention of the Gardaí before and has no previous convictions.
Ms Lalor said he had met friends for a drink and had intended to walk home, before 'foolishly' deciding to drive instead. She said he won't ever do it again.
Judge O Buachalla convicted Goggins of drunken driving and fined him €400. He also disqualified him from driving for two years, but postponed the ban until September 1.
He also added a day onto the ban, which will allow Goggins apply for the early restoration of his licence, as he pleaded guilty to the offence at the earliest opportunity.
