There were calls to properly mark the electric vehicle charging spaces in towns around the county recently.

At the January meeting of Wexford County Council Cllr Oisin O'Connell laid down a notice of motion calling on the council to ensure that such spaces in New Ross, Bunclody, Enniscorthy, Courtown Harbour and Wexford town 'are painted with appropriate markings and signage erected with clear rules of use'.

He also called on the council to 'recommend and implement free parking for electric vehicles at these charging spaces while they are charging'.

Cllr O'Connell said the number of electric vehicles on the road is increasing and pointed out that many people tended to stop and shop when charging their vehicles.

It was seconded by Cllr George Lawlor who said 'we have the opportunity to become the leading county in Ireland with ownership' of these.
