Estate's sewage fix put on hold
PLANS TO pump sewage produced by homes in Murrintown's Redwood estate into the village waste water treatment plant have been put on hold, to the annoyance of Cllr. Padge Reck.
The independent public representative recalled that he wrote residents informing them that the connection would be made to the public scheme, replacing their private arrangement.
He was concerned that officials did not think to tell him the move was not going ahead.
'We are doing our best,' pleaded director of water services Eddie Taaffe. 'If things were simple to solve, we would solve them.' He indicated that, in the long term, it is intended to turn the water treatment plant in Murrintown into a pumping station. When this happens, all the Murrintown sewage - including Redwood's - will be sent to Piercestown. But first, the director explained, Piercestown needs to be hooked up to the Wexford town system.
At least he was able to assure Cllr. Reck that the pipes have been ordered for the link from Piercestown to Drinagh.
