Extradition campaign supported
WEXFORD Borough Council has voted to support the campaign against the extradition of Sean Garland to the United States, on humanitarian grounds.
Council members agreed with a motion from Cllr. Anthony Kelly (Sinn Fein) who said Mr. Garland was a 75-years old insulin-dependent diabetic who had undergone chemotherapy for bowel cancer.
He said the allegation that he conspired to forge US dollars had been circulating for over 15 years but no evidence was offered and Mr. Garland denied the accusation.
Cllr. Paddy Nolan (FF) said he thought Ireland would be the laughing stock of the world if he was to be extradited.
Cllr. George Lawlor (Lab) said he didn't think there was anything to be gained from the extradition.
