Father of baby stole fuel

A MAN told Wexford District Court that he stole coal and wood from a supermarket because he had a twoweek old baby and couldn't afford fuel to light a fire.

David Reynolds, 11 Cloney's Villas, Ballinesker, Curracloe pleaded guilty to stealing firewood and coal valued at a total of €39on two separate dates in Novembetr at Centra Supermarket in Whitemill Road.

Garda Brian Cummins said the defendant made a full admission when interviewed.

'My baby was only two weeks old. I had no money for coal. I had no excuse but I had to take it,' the defendant told Judge Gerard Haughton.

Judge Haughton adjourned the case to September 16 for payment of compensation. 'If you pay the money I'll deal with it by way of a nominal fine,' the Judge told him.
