Fifth South East 'Art in the Open' Festival is launched
EASELS and sketch pads at the ready, the annual 'Art in the Open Festival' is just around the corner.
This is the fifth year that the festival, which usually attracts hundreds of artists, will come to Wexford. The creative initiative was launched last week with a 'paintout' at the historical Johnstown Castle.
Described by organiser Tony Robinson as 'a celebration of outdoor painting in the landscape of the south-east', the festival in Wexford runs concurrently in neighbouring Carlow and Kilkenny.
The framework of this fine art festival is seven days of outdoor painting in aesthetic locations including Kilmore Quay, Clonegal, Enniscorthy, Hook Head, Wexford town, Johnstown Castle and Rosslare Strand.
The festival welcomes both professional and amateur artists. This year the festival programme has been extended to include a variety of events suited, not just too experienced artists, but also to beginners. It will culminate in an exhibition of 300 paintings on Monday, 6 August, in Greenacres Gallery.
'Art in the Open Festival' runs from July 30 to August 7.
