Four arrests after 'riot'
GARDAÍ had to call in reinforcements when two officers were attacked as violence erupted out of the blue in Enniscorthy on Sunday evening.
Gardaí have confirmed that four arrests were made at the scene after an incident in which Detective Garda Martin Brauders and a uniformed colleague required reinforcements to calm the situation and apprehend a quartet of suspects.
A number of individuals, apparently in a state of intoxication, became involved in a confrontation with the gardaí on the street at around 8.30 p.m. The ructions broke out at the top of Cathedral Street and it is believed that visitors from Wexford were to the fore.
A spokesman for the Gardaí confirmed that four individuals were arrested on Sunday evening, one of them a juvenile. Formal charges have been levelled against the three adults, he said, arising out of a public order incident. Further charges may also be brought after the DPP considers the files currently being prepared on the disturbance.
None of the Gardaí involved was seriously injured in the scuffle and no one required hospital treatment, the spokesman stressed.
The individuals charged have been bailed to appear at the Enniscorthy District Court sitting in Ardcavan today ( Wednesday).
