Free health screening tests
Free health screening tests are being offered in the Talbot Hotel on Thursday, March 28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in a roadshow hosted by Hidden Hearing in conjunction with the Irish Heart Foundation and Diabetes Ireland.
The initiative is part of Hearing Awareness Week and health specialists will be available to answer questions and provide vital health checks and procedures such as blood pressure and blood sugar measurement, foot examinations, ear wax removal and hearing tests.
People interested in being tested are encouraged to register at www.hiddenhearing.ie or telephone the freephone number 1850 804050.
Medical research shows that untreated hearing loss is linked to general health and wellness and can indicate a higher risk of problems with blood pressure, stroke, diabetes and dementia, according to Hidden Hearing Ireland Audiologist Peter Noel Cullen.
However, a survey carried out by Hidden Hearing in January of this year, showed a low awareness of the connection between hearing loss and serious health issues such as cardiovascular disease and dementia, even among those with hearing loss.
The survey which was part of worldwide research, indicated a poor track record on the part of Irish people when it comes to looking after their hearing health. A total of 22% of people admitted waiting five years or more before seeking medical help.
