Free smoke alarms to be distributed
HOUSEHOLDERS across County Wexford will feel safer in their own homes shortly when Wexford Fire Service provides free smoke alarms to certain individuals.
Thanks to a national donation of €100,000 worth of equipment by Ei Electronics, who manufacture fire and gas detection products, the fire service and County Wexford Community Forum will distribute free fire alarms to those most in need in their areas. The roll out will commence in May 2011. Between 40 and 50 people have died in accidental house fires in Ireland for the last 20 years, and 18 people died in house fires between December 2010 and January 2011. According to Michael Guinee, Managing Director of Ei Rlectronics, as many as 300,000 homes do not have smoke alarms.
In addition to the 100 smoke alarms being donated by Ei Electronics, Wexford Fire Service have also donated an additional 100 smoke alarms to the initiative.
