A STAGGERING 250 different events will have Wexford's culture vultures spoilt for choice during the Opera Fringe Festival.

Wexford Chamber launched its 60th annual guide to the fringe at a colourful reception in Wexford Arts Centre.

The guide which is now available free of charge in local outlets, has listings for art exhibitions, music, comedy, dance, literature and family entertainment.

Some of the highlights include Pierce Turner and a Very Small Orchestra, a concert by West End star Aileen Donohoe; Wexford Light Opera Society's Hits from the Musicals; performances by Wexford Festival Singers and Wexford Folk Orchestra; the Festival Antiques Fair and the Singing and Swinging Pubs Competition.

The events will take place in venues all over the Wexford area from October 19 to November during Wexford Festival Opera.

The official launch was performed by the Mayor of Wexford, Cllr. Jim Allen, and sponsored by Waterford Airport.

The airport is now offering opera fans in the U.K. a convenient way to reach Wexford via flights from London, Manchester and Birmingham.

People attending the guide launch were treated to musical performances by Helena Mulkerns and the Featherhead Trio of Caca Milis Cabaret and appearances by Bui Bolg puppets and Red Moon Theatre.

Wexford Chamber President Fleur Creed described the guide as ' the bible for fringe-goers during the Opera Festival.

' The festival will once again reinforce Wexford's reputation as a cultural hub this October, attracting many world-renowned artists, musicians and performers who are guaranteed to amaze and excite local, national and international audiences,' she said.
