Funds a life-saver for RNLI
THERE are three RNLI Lifeboat Charity shops at locations around the Wexford Coastline, including Courtown, Wexford and Kilmore Quay.
These shops sell a range of Lifeboat souvenirs, gifts, and clothing. At present they are also looking forward to the sale of their popular range of Christmas cards and Christmas gifts, which are sold in store in the coming months.
All monies raised in the shops go towards saving lives at sea. The shops are all staffed by teams of volunteers which are overseen by the various Station fundraising committees.
In the case of Courtown, Aine Stafford, PRO of Courtown RNLI Lifeboat, explained that the volunteers had extended the opening hours this year, to take account of the downturn in the economy. They are now launching an additional fundraising drive where people can drop in their used ink cartridges and old phones for recycling, and proceeds will go to the RNLI.
Opening hours vary at the three locations. In Courtown, where the shop is based at the Lifeboat House on the North Pier, the shop is open for the winter on Saturday and Sunday afternoons from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The Wexford shop, which is also based at the Lifeboat House, is open on Saturdays from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The Kilmore Quay shop is open Sundays from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and daily during the summer.
