Garda warning over pickpockets in Wexford
gardai are trying to establish whether there is a connection between a distraction theft at Tesco in Wexford and an attempted purse snatching on South Main Street last Tuesday evening.
In the first incident at Tesco, a woman's purse was snatched from her bag while she was providing directions to Wexford General Hospital to an 'Eastern European' man in the supermarket car park.
In the second, three people described as 'Romanians' were involved in an attempt to snatch a woman's purse as she walked along North Main Street at around 5.30 p.m. on Tuesday (March 14).
The woman is said to have confronted one of the women who dropped the purse which was recovered without any money being removed. Gardai are investigating and are reviewing camera footage of one if not both of the incidents. Meanwhile, they are warning people to be on their guard against pickpockets operating in the town.
