Gardai and Revenue Officers seized over 38,000 cigarettes in Enniscorthy last week with an estimated street value of €26,000.

The seizure took place on Wednesday following a joint intelligence led operation.

A search warrant was executed at a residential property in the town on Wednesday afternoon.

A spokesperson for the gardai in Enniscorthy said the cigarettes, which were branded 'Marlboro Gold', 'NZ Gold' and 'Sobranie', represented a potential loss to the exchequer of €20,500.

No-one was arrested in relation to the seizure, however, investigations into the matter are ongoing and the find was part of ongoing multi-agency operations targeting the supply and sale of illegal tobacco products in the shadow economy.

If businesses or members of the public have any information regarding smuggling they can contact Revenue in confidence on free phone 1800 295 295.
