Gardai urge extreme caution as Hallowe'en festivities begin
GARDAI in Co Wexford are urging everyone to have a safe and enjoyable Hallowe'en this year.
Inspector Pat Mcdonald is, in particular, urging parents to be vigilant and know where their children are and what they are up to this weekend as they celebrate Hallowe'en. Inspector Mcdonald pointed out that every year children and young people suffer injuries caused by fireworks, including burns and facial injuries, sometimes serious
He said that it should be borne in mind that the sale, possession or use of fireworks in this country is illegal.
'Many of the fireworks that are offered for sale illegally here have not passed any quality control tests and are possibly defective,' he said.
The Gardai will confiscate any fireworks they find and anyone in possession of them may be prosecuted, while Inspector McDonald also pointed out that it is a specific offence to throw ignited fireworks in public places - as well as causing distress to elderly people in the area.
