Local photographer and long-time stalwart of the Wexford People, Ger Hore, has been rewarded for his work with a prestigious award.

Having been nominated by his customers, Ger was named Photographer of the Year at the South East Radio Customer Excellence awards at the Riverside Park Hotel last Friday evening. This was the second year in succession Ger has won the award and he attributed much of his success to the woman who's been there since the beginning.

'My wife Jackie has been with from the very start, behind me all the way. I've been doing this 36 years now, been with the People for 20 years, and I still enjoy it.'

Ger also paid tribute to those who nominated him, admitting that, without their support, he wouldn't have won the award. 'I don't know who nominated me, people did it anonymously through the radio. But without them I wouldn't have won it.'

A veteran of the trade, Ger said he has seen many changes over the years, the biggest being the switch to digital at the turn of the century. 'When I started out it was all black and white, all negatives no digital. In 2001 it started going digital, papers started going digital and that changed everything, the whole dynamic changed, no more dark room work.'

Supported by the Local Enterprise Office, the Customer Excellence Awards recognised a number of other businesses throughout the county on the night. A Special Merit Award was presented to the Pettitt family for their storied history in local retail, the other winners were as follows: Grant's Pharmacy, Hannah Quinn - Zen Beauty Bar, The Cutthroat Club Barbers Shop, J'Adore Shoe Boutique and Revolution Menswear.
