Great response to appeal for dog 'foster families'
THE WSPCA has had a tremendous response to the appeal for homes for dogs carried in this paper last week.
A particularly bad January this year saw a huge amount of dogs surrendered to the WSPCA or County Dog Warden Johnny Colfer and many more simply abandoned around the county.
This resulted in the county council's allocation at both pounds it uses filling up and as many dogs again being cared for by the dedicated team of WSPCA foster carers.
However, many of the dogs are now in or on their way to new homes following a ' tremendous' response from people throughout Co Wexford, according to Brigid Cullen of the WSPCA.
'Following the article on last week's paper many of the dogs found good homes and thankfully some even found there owners,' said Brigid.
She said that some people simply turned up at the pounds looking for lost dogs following last week's appeal, only to be disappointed, but took a new dog home with them.
'I would like to thank all the people who called me and offered their support, even if they were not in a position to take a dog,' said Brigid.
The WSPCA is still in urgent need of more foster carers and if anyone is in a position to help them they can contact Brigid on 087-1220416.
