Green Party in disarray
THE BUNDLING efforts of Green Party leader John Gormley in pulling out of Government seems to be rubbing off the party's Wexford branch.
While Gormley's decision to join the Opposition ranks was widely deemed too little, too late, the Wexford branch seems in total disarray, with no clear indication on a candidate, despite their selection convention only 'days away'.
Cllr. Danny Forde said yesterday (Tuesday) that his party hope to make an announcement 'as soon as possible' on who exactly that will be, despite the fact that nobody has put their name forward.
Cllr Forde is just one of two Green Party councillors in Co Wexford. New Ross councillor Niamh Fitzgibbon has already ruled herself out of contention. The Wexford man has not, but is refusing to publicly declare that he will be the man to contest the election in Wexford for the Greens.
'No one has officially put their name forward yet, but there will absolutely be a candidate,' he said.
