Grisly find turns out to be 'armless'
A GRISLY FIND of what looked like a human hand on a Wexford beach turned out to be 'armless' in the end.
Blackwater Gardaí responded to a call from a member of the public who discovered decomposed remains on strand at Ballysillogue on Saturday.
The bony piece of flotsam had what appeared to be skin and officers were concerned that it might indeed be human.
They carefully picked up the remains and brought them for examination by Wexford forensic expert Gerry Keely, who pronounced it to be the flipper of a seal, to the great relief of all concerned.
The incident followed a report during the summer, also dealt with by officers stationed in Blackwater, about a spine and ribs washed up on the sand. It too proved to be from the body of a seal, though it looked eerily human.
