Head shop initiatives

THERE is no head shop left in Co Wexford following the passing into law of new laws cracking down on the once ' legal highs' over the summer months and that levels of crime in certain areas has decreased as a result.

Chief Superintendent John Roche confirmed at Monday's Joint Policing Committee (JPC) meeting that since the new bill passed into law on July 14 last, giving the Gardaí new powers of search and seizure, and the courts the power to issue closure orders, all of the county's remaining five Head Shops had closed.

Chief Supt Roche said that the closure of the head shops is noticeable in the levels of public order, criminal damage and domestic violence incidents the Gardaí are required to deal with, as well as admissions to A&E at Wexford General Hospital.
