Hospital staff recognised for their love and care
When her husband passed away in May of this year Marian Redmond thought it only fitting that the work of those who have cared for him in his final days be recognised.
Markie Redmond had spent 10 months at Wexford General Hospital, initially in St Aidan's Ward and St Bridget's Ward before moving to the ICU, and such was the level of care he received, Marian decided to organise a sponsored walk to raise funds for the hospital.
Helped by Mag Balfe, Marian and her daughters Lisa and Sharon arranged a 5k walk in their native Ballymurn in June of this year.
The walk saw participants meet at the Anvil Bar on the morning of the event, going from there to Markie's home in St Joseph's Terrace where they met with the Redmond family.
Through bucket collections and a bake sale, a total of €1,305 was raised from the event, which will now go towards purchasing equipment at Wexford General Hospital.
'It was just our way of saying thanks to everyone at the hospital for their help,' said Marian. 'My husband was in the hospital for 10 months and we just wanted to give something back and offer our thanks to all the staff at the hospital for their help: the carers, security, everyone.'
