Hospital story scoops top award for South East Radio
THE 'Morning Mix' team from South East Radio has won a prestigious national award for its coverage of Wexford General Hospital this year.
The popular show, which focuses on current affairs and is presented by Wexford's Alan Corcoran, was the winner in the Consumer Broadcast News section at the GlaxoSmithKline Irish Medical Media Awards.
Entries were judged by an independent panel comprising key figures from a broad range of fields including medicine, journalism, patient and consumer support groups.
The panel was chaired by Dr John Bowman.
The judging panel said the award for the Morning Mix crew 'recognised the team's comprehensive, campaigning coverage of a local story which included an excellent use of their archive material'.
The award was for the programme's comprehensive documentary on the threat to acute services at Wexford General Hospital and how the situation developed throughout the year, culminating in the announcement of €20 million funding for new A&E and Maternity Units there.
