Hotel Rosslare is in new ownership after it sold at auction for €480,000 on Friday afternoon.

The well-known hotel was also the venue for the auction which was conducted by auctioneer John Keane, who had expected the property to go for around the €500,000 mark.

'The auction was very well attended, there was a good crowd of people there to watch the proceedings. We had three bidders and the bidding started at €300,000. It went to €420,000 and we put it on the market and it eventually sold for €480,000,' said Mr Keane.

The new owners, he said, were not local, but were in the hotel industry as a family-run business.

He believed their intention was to run the premises as a hotel and he said it was good news for Rosslare Harbour.

'The hotel has been operational and was recently rented and going very well.'

The hotel has 25 bedrooms and plenty of parking but was being sold with all fixtures and fittings.

Mr Keane added that interest in the boutique hotel had been high since it was put on the market.
