Housing group is inundated with pleas for help

By Esther Hayden

Wexford Housing Action Group has been inundated with pleas for help from members of the public in the run up to Christmas.

The group is now in its second year and this winter is expected to be even busier than last year.

'We are inundated with request for help at the moment. We are not in a position to offer more than a tent and sleeping bag in most cases', said the group's chairman Tony Bergin.

Wexford housing action group is a support for people in housing crisis, whether they are homeless or facing eviction. In order to provide practical support the group is also doing a collection of shoe boxes for those in need. Some examples of items to include: socks and underwear, shower gel and shampoo and other wash items, sanitary items, small gift or Christmas card. Items should be put in a box and wrapped in Christmas paper.

The deadline for collection is December 15. To arrange a collection contact 089 2211661.

In a bid to raise money to help people in need the group is holding a fundraising quiz on November 10 at 8 pm, in Sinnott's Bar, Bishopswater.
