Husband says wife could have died in Wexford street

By David Tucker

An ambulance responding to a 999 emergency in Wexford town centre was delayed in reaching the victim after it was halted by two sets of locked barriers on the main street.

The crew, who were from Enniscorthy, tried to take the direct route to Main Street outside St. Iberius Church, but instead were forced to take a circuitous drive around the town to reach Helen Smith who had collapsed and was lapsing in and out of consciousness.

'She could have died in the street,' said her husband Padge.
