To mark Water Heritage Day the Local Authorities Water Programme is sponsoring a talk by naturalist Jim Hurley titled 'Water Quality in The Three Lagoons: Lady's Island Lake, Tacumshin Lake and Ballyteige Channels'. The illustrated will take place in Wexford town library at 7pm on Tuesday August 27, focusing on water quality and biodiversity in the three waterbodies. Admission is free and all are welcome attend.

Water Heritage Day 2019 is a collaboration between The Heritage Council and the Local Authority Waters Programme (LAWPRO). The overall aim of the annual event is to celebrate water and our connections with it.

Outling the background background to the talk, Jim Hurley explained: 'A comprehensive report was produced recently detailing the results of an investigation of water quality in the lagoons at Lady's Island Lake, Tacumshin Lake and the Ballyteige Channels. While some of the reported findings were excellent, others were disappointing.

What I want to do is to bring the contents of that report to the attention of anyone interested in these three outstanding water bodies and to explore the closely related issues of water quality in the lagoons and the biodiversity they support'

Mr. Hurley said he hoped Water Heritage Day and the talk will help raise awareness and feed into the steps that are being taken by LAWPRO, Wexford County Council, the EPA, the National Parks and Wildlife Service, aimed at achieving good water quality in the three waterbodies that are an important element of our water heritage.
