Johnstown Castle hosts first wedding in 100 years
IT WAS THE FIRST WEDDING at Johnstown Castle in Wexford in 100 years.
American couple Steve Swanson and Devon Ness from Minnesota tied the knot in a legally-binding ceremony performed by Pastor Tom Potter who is originally from Kansas but now ministers at his own church in County Waterford.
A traditional horse and carriage was supplied as a surprise for the couple by the Forth Mountain Carriage Driving Centre. The last wedding held there was when a member of the Fitzgerald family which owned the castle, Lady Kathleen Larkin got married in 1904.
Part of the fee charged for using the castle will go towards its restoration and maintenance.
Oylegate-based Rosemarie Meleady who organised Steve and Devon's wedding reckons the castle will quickly become one of Ireland's most soughtafter wedding ceremony locations.
