Ken Black to open toy store

WEXFORD'S retail sector has been given a boost with the news that Ken Black is to open a store here.

The toy and nursery store will open in Clonard Retail Park, where Byrne's World of Wonder – now in receivership – closed its large store earlier this year.

The Ken Black chain already has a number of outlets in other parts of the country, including Carlow and Portlaoise, where the company has its headquarters and distribution centre.

It's not clear yet how many jobs will be created, but the company is currently advertising for people to fill both management and sales assistant roles at its new Wexford store.

The news is a welcome boost for the struggling retail sector, which is reeling from a so-called 'Black September', which was recorded as the 43rd consecutive month of sales decline in Ireland.
