KILRANE National School orchestra will be performing at the National Opera House on Sunday, March 22, with pupils from third years to sixth class showing off a wide selection of musical skills.

The orchestra currently has 53 pupils playing violins, cellos, clarinets, flutes, saxophone, recorders, glockenspiels and a selection of percussion instruments.

It has gone from strength to strength since its formation 12 years ago and forms an integral part of the school's music education programme as pupils learn to play a musical instrument and get the opportunity to experience the joy of playing these instruments together.

They perform for family and friends at annual orchestral concerts, Christmas concerts, the opening of our new school building and most recently on Grandparents Day.

The children are busy rehearsing for their performance in the Third Wexford Youth Orchestra Festival in the National Opera House, where they will play three pieces on their own and then join 200 other musicians to play two more pieces.

Tickets for the concert are available on the Opera House website or at the box office.
