The students of Our Lady of Fatima School in Wexford had the opportunity to see democracy in action up close and personal last week as they made a trip to Leinster House.

The CSPE group of nine students, accompanied by three adults, were given an access all areas tour at the invitation of Minister Paul Kehoe and they also got the chance to meet his government colleague and fellow Wexford TD James Browne.

Each year, the CSPE class from Our Lady of Fatima make the journey to Dublin to take a look around the Dáil and the Seanad and they were delighted to be able to see Tánaiste Simon Coveney taking leaders questions, during the course of which some lively debate ensued on the subject of the National Children's Hospital.

The group received a full tour of Leinster House, visiting both the Dáil and the Seanad and were given the whole history of how they came to be.

After this they met with Minister Kehoe and Deputy Browne who were delighted to chat with them about their roles in government. Minister Kehoe even welcomed them into the offices of the Taoiseach, something which not everyone gets to see.

'I was blown away by the enthusiasm and energy of these great students , as well as their excellent knowledge of CSPE,' Minister Kehoe said.

'A visit to Government Buildings and Leinster House is an extremely good educational experience for our young people. Thanks to Mary O'Byrne and co for organising the trip for the students.'

Similarly the school were extremely grateful to Minister Kehoe who they said has been 'exceptionally good' to their school over the years and really made the trip a memorable one for all of the lucky students involved.
