Lashed out at man who came to deliver summons
A RESIDENT OF The Ballagh who lashed out at the man who came to serve a civil summons was dealt with in the District Court last week.
Michael Sinnott (41) of Slievenagorea left Shane McLoughlin punched and kicked, with a lump on the back of his head on November 6, 2008.
Details of the case were given on a previous occasion when Sinnott was ordered to pay €448 in compensation, to cover damage done to McLoughlin's car. On Wednesday, solicitor Caitriona Walsh told Judge Gerard Haughton the money was in court.
She explained that her client had been through an acrimonious separation from his estranged wife. It had been agreed that documents would be served on solicitors rather than in person but, in spite of this, the summons was brought to Sinnott's residence. Ms. Walsh accepted that this was no excuse for what occurred on the day in question. She added that the accused had been under financial pressure. Sinnott used to work for an agricultural contractor but the business folded and Sinnott was now drawing social welfare.
He was fined €250 for criminal damage to the car.
