Lisa McDonald to put her name forward for election
LISA McDonald's name will be in the mix at the Fianna Fáil selection convention in County Wexford, expected to be held in the coming days.
Though sitting TDs John Browne and Seán Connick are favoured to get the nod to make up the ticket, Ms McDonald and Gorey councillor Malcolm Byrne have also put their names forward to contest what promises to be an extremely tough election for Fianna Fáil.
The Piercestown-based senator said that the current wrangling in her party 'does nothing to help the general political sphere' and her hope is that from the current mess there comes 'a change in politics in Ireland'.
Ms McDonald pointed out that she has been calling for political reform for several years, long before the recession arrived. 'We need politicians that are more accountable to the people and less accountable to their parties and themselves,' she said.
