The Lobster Pot in Carne, an award-winning restaurant and bar renowned throughout Ireland, has been placed on the market at a guide price of €650,000 through the offices of auctioneer Barry Kehoe and Associates.

The well-known owners Ciaran and Anne Hearne have decided to retire and are selling the business after developing and running it successfully for the past 35 years, achieving several awards such as Black and White Pub of the Year 1995 and appearing in many top publications including a sole Wexford listing in the Michelin 'Eating Out in Pubs' Guide.

The property which includes a fully-fitted bar, restaurants, kitchens, first floor accommodation, a separate bungalow residence and a public car park across the road is situated close to the holiday resort of Carne beach and the pilgrimage site of Our Lady's Island.

Billed as a thriving business with a substantial and consistent turnover, it will go under the hammer at a public auction in the premises of Kehoe and Associates on Thursday, September 27.

'We are delighted to bring this very special property to the market and we expect a strong level of interest', said auctioneer Colum Murphy.

One of the best-known licensed premises in Ireland, the Lobster Pot was opened in 1983 by the Wexford couple who worked hard to transform the coastal premises into a quality family-run country pub with an old world charm and a reputation for seafood and hospitality which drew people from far and near. In 2009, it was named Ireland's top Seafood Restaurant. While the Hearnes have decided to retire, they plan to remain living locally, it is understood.
