There was a great atmosphere at Mernagh's of Oylegate recently as family and friends of 11 year-old Amber O'Brien gathered for a very special fundraiser. A pupil at Oylegate NS, Amber was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes back in October, on her 11th birthday.

Having become very familiar with the condition very quickly, her family decided to organise a coffee morning to raise further awareness and some much needed funds for Diabetes Ireland. 'It was a great day,' said Amber's mum Louise. 'There was a great stir and we had a lovely crowd in over the course of the morning. With Amber being diagnosed back in October, we wanted to do something and she was there on the day helping out and chatting away to everyone.'

The family were delighted with the support from the local community, as friends, neighbours and family all came along and enjoyed a cuppa, a treat and a chat. The event has already raised €1,168, and Louise and the family wish to thank everybody who played a part.
