Longboat escapes moorings but gets stuck under bridge
It was a sight to behold and a throw back to Wexford's rich Viking history when a Viking longboat for struck under Wexford Bridge last week.
The historic replica of a Viking longboat is understood to have escaped its moorings at the Irish National Heritage Park during ex-Hurricane Ophelia. It made its way down river until it met the mighty force of Wexford Bridge and was unable to sneak under the bridge to make a bid for freedom.
Colm Campbell, general manager of the Riverbank Hotel, said the boat's predicament raised quite a number of comments from customers.
'It drew plenty of attention from customers and I think everyone had a giggle when they saw it.'
