Lorry overtook car in freezing conditions

A LORRY driver who overtook a car coming out of Tagoat in freezing conditions has been disqualified from driving for six months.

Wexford District Court heard last week that Sergeant Mick Troy was on his way back from duty in Rosslare Europort at 7.35 a.m. on December 18 last. He was driving through Tagoat in an unmarked patrol car when he saw a truck overtaking a car on the hatched markings coming out of the village. The temperature was minus two and the road was damp, with ice in places.

Sgt Troy stopped the truck and spoke to Paul Bermingham (42), of 6 Ard na Greine, Church Road, Tullamore, Co Offaly, who asked the sergeant to give him a break as he was on his way home after two weeks on the continent.

Judge Donnchadh O Buachalla heard that Bermingham had a previous conviction for speeding.

He was this time convicted of dangerous driving and fined €700. He was also disqualified from driving for six months, with Judge O Buachalla telling him that his previous conviction meant there was no other option than a driving ban.
