Man facing sex charges
A MAN in his thirties charged with sexual offences against a minor appeared at Enniscorthy District Court last week to receive the book of evidence against him.
Five charges of 'defilement of a child under 17' years of age were before the court, relating to a five-month period from March to July in 2007. He was represented in court by solicitor Caitriona Walsh who acknowledged that her client had been served with the book of evidence by the Gardaí. Inspector Pat Cody passed on instructions from the Director of Public Prosecutions that the accused man should be sent forward for trial at Wexford Circuit Court rather than the Central Criminal Court.
Judge Donnchadh Ó Buachalla imposed reporting restrictions forbidding the press from publishing anything that might identify the defendant or the allegedly injured party before referring the case to the Circuit Court.
