Man fined over rubbish at beach
A €500 FINE was imposed at Gorey District Court recently on Toni Todisco of 33A Ferndale Park, Wexford, after rubbish was found at Donaghmore Beach, Gorey.
The defendant wasn't in court to answer the charge incurred after rubbish was found on the beach on September 1 last year. Trevor Moore from Kildare said he was holidaying in the area, and was on the beach the evening before and it was clean. He returned to the beach at 5.30 a.m. and found two bags of rubbish dumped on the grass near the beach.
He searched through the bags, and found an invoice in the name of Toni Todisco. He informed the Council of the find. A litter fine was sent to the defendant by the Council but it wasn't paid.
Judge Haughton fined the defendant €500, and also ordered €120 in witness expenses and €160 in costs be paid. Recognisances were fixed in the event of an appeal.
'It's nice to see people so committed that they come from that distance away to give evidence,' said the Judge.
