Man spat blood at Garda
THE VICTIM of a street attack who was convicted of assaulting a garda by spitting blood at him, was fined €200 at Wexford District Court and ordered to donate €300 to the Garda Benevolent Fund.
Noel Doyle, 39 Westlands, Kilrane, Rosslare Harbour had pleaded not guilty to assaulting Garda Paddy Casey at Redmond Square on December 27, 2009. He was also charged with being intoxicated in a public place.
Caitriona Walsh, solicitor said the case was heard last June when Judge Donnchadh O Buachalla found the facts proven and adjourned the case to allow the defendant to collect money for a charity of the garda's choice.
Ms. Walsh said her client had gathered € 500 which he had brought to court. He had not been in any trouble since the incident.
She said the case had been contested.
Judge O Buachalla fined the defendant €200 and ordered him to pay € 300 to the Garda Benevolent Fund.
