Man 'too drunk' for court

A TAGHMON man who was too drunk to allow his case proceed at last Tuesday's sitting of New Ross District Court has been remanded in custody.

James Murphy from Poulmarle appeared before Judge Haughton to face a charge of handling a stolen VW Transporter Camper Van on August 31, 2011, at Rochestown, Taghmon.

Defence solicitor Ed King explained that his 40-yearold client didn't know the vehicle was stolen, before the clearly inebriated defendant later told the Judge 'I'm innocent – I never done nothing'.

'Clearly the defendant is not in a state to deal with the case,' remarked Judge Haughton, who remanded Murphy in custody.
