Maritime Festival demonstration turns into real life rescue
A RESCUE demonstration turned into a real life operation at the John Barry Maritime festival on Saturday when a man in a sailing dinghy got into difficulty off Rosslare Point.
The Coastguard helicopter and Wexford RNLI lifeboat crew were having a briefing on a search and rescue demonstration during the John Barry Maritime festival when the incident was reported.
The Rosslare RNLI was also tasked. The person was successfully rescued by Wexford RNLI and he did not sustain any injuries.
Speaking after the incident, festival organiser and Wexford RNLI volunteer crewmember Lorraine Galvin said it was a great opportunity for the public to witness a real life rescue.
'The coast guard and RNLI crew we just briefing on a search and rescue demonstration as part of the John Barry Maritime Festival, which is in aid of Wexford RNLI when the call for help came in, the rescue helicopter was already in Wexford and the public got to see first hand what these volunteer and rescue crew do.'
