A young Davidstown man has been elected to the National Executive panel of Young Fine Gael. Nineteen year-old Mark Kavanagh of Clohass, Davidstown, was officially elected to the prestigious position at a special ceremony Ballykisteen Hotel in Tipperary.

The Marketing student was moving in some pretty impressive political circles at the event with Taoiseach Leo Varadkar, Tánaiste Simon Coveney and a number of other Ministers in attendance and he was delighted to be elected to the panel which consists of four members, a Chairperson and a Vice-Chair.

'I'm delighted to have been elected,' Mark said. 'Basically I've got a panel seat now and it'll be our job to come up with policies and campaigns for Young Fine Gael on a national level. As well as that we'd be tasked with helping the senior party with canvassing in the event of a General Election or anything like that.'

As far as his own political ambitions, Mark, who was previously the Wexford and Leinster Chairman, says that he is delighted to be involved with Young Fine Gael, but he isn't sure just yet if his future lies in politics.

'I was always interested in politics and I knew that it could be beneficial in terms of the contacts you can make,' he said. 'At the moment I'm just taking things as they come. I don't intend on running for election myself or anything like that any time soon.'

Following his election in Tipperary, Mark is set to sit down with his fellow national panel members and the Taoiseach in the coming weeks to discuss policies and campaigns which they will focus on going forward and he is looking forward to sinking his teeth into the role.
