Market House delay concerns

Cllr John Hegarty sought an update on what is happening with plans to develop the Market House in Gorey.

Cllr Hegarty said: 'There is a process in place. When do we see it starting or finishing?'

Director of Services for Economic Development Tony Larkin said there is no exact timeframe. He said a procurement process is due to begin in the early autumn and a contractual arrangement will be undertaken with a partner. Mr Larkin said: 'I am very keen that we make it a very level playing field. Its owned by taxpayers. This will access the level of interest and then a procurement process to make sure that all potential partners are included. This will be under way in October or November.'

Cllr Fionntáin O Suilleabháin asked if the figure of €750,000 was a realistic sum for the grant that is expected to be provided for the facility. Mr Larkin said it is a 'guesstimate'. Cllr Malcolm Byrne said he was concerned that the project has been 'put in storage' for three years.
