Maternity nurses put buns in oven
WEXFORD midwives turned confectioners last week as they raised €1,500 to support families who have lost small babies.
The nurses from the maternity unit set up their stall in the foyer of Wexford General and offered cakes for sale, with the proceeds going to support their cause.
'It was very successful,' declared Nuria Nolan, one of the midwives who help to deliver 2,400 successfully at the hospital each year. However, the concerned staff are also anxious to assist the ten to 20 families annually who experience the trauma of stillbirth.
The money raised fell around €500 shy of target but it is expected that the shortfall will be made up on Sunday, August 12 when the same cause will benefit from the ' Three Bridges' cycle. Participants are asked to assemble in Wexford at 11 a.m. on the day and pay €10 a head to join in covering the circular route taking in Ferrycarrig and Crossabeg.
' That should finish the job,' declared Nuria Nolan who thanked cycle organiser James Ryan for making stillbirth support the chosen good cause this year.
